In return for this commitment, Ruth the Moabite was welcomed into the story of God’s people. The Point: Christ-centered living chooses commitment, not convenience. We are “thrown together”! It was the time of the barley harvest. People there worshiped idols; they bowed down to false gods like Chemosh. She wasn’t going to be talked out of it! Ruth went to work God fulfills the promise to His children that no matter what circumstances that they are in and decisions they may have made, everything will work out for good and blessed super abundantly when we look to Him. This is where Ruth comes in. God provides for His people even in the midst of famine. People are often surprised to find that the words from Ruth 1:16b-17, often heard at weddings, are not about the joys of beginning a new life together. Boaz, the leader of the Jewish people and a kinsman of Naomi’s late husband Elimelech, has just noticed Ruth, the proselyte, gleaning in his fields. A little about me.
